OneSoccer Classic rebroadcast: Forge FC’s 1st CPL win (today at 8 pm ET)
Canadian Premier League

OneSoccer will host a special watch party on Thursday evening featuring a rebroadcast of Forge FC’s first Canadian Premier League win, versus Pacific FC on May 8, 2019.

The full match will be live streamed at 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT) and made available to all soccer fans via OneSoccer’s YouTube channel.

If you weren’t at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton that day, or didn’t see this match when it originally aired on OneSoccer, this is your chance to watch it for the first time.

Anthony Novak and David Choiniere powered a Kyle Bekker-less Forge FC to a 3-0 win over Pacific, giving the Hamilton side its first victory in club history.

Forge was hoping for a stroke of luck following a disappointing 2-1 loss in Halifax, as the pre-season favourites had just one point from their first two league matches. Pacific, meanwhile, arrived in Hamilton on seven day’s rest following a 2-1 loss to Valour FC at Westhills Stadium.

Novak made an immediate impact in the CPL by scoring a spectacular goal in the third minute, starting with his back to the goalkeeper and turning before blasting a shot into the top right corner of the net.

Forge teammate Emery Welshman made it 2-0 shortly after, slotting home in the 14th minute after holding off a defender and finessing a series of impressive touches.

Choiniere assisted on Welshman’s marker, his first in the CPL.

Missing forward Marcus Haber up top due to a toe injury, Pacific’s best chance in the match came in the final moments of the first half when a perfectly-weighted ball at the back post was headed wide by Issey Nakajima-Farran.

The final goal of the game came in the 70th minute when Forge captain Giuliano Frano headed home a Daniel Krutzen corner.

“I like to think I speak for a select group of Canadians who haven’t had the appropriate chance of being a professional, and this league has opened up that chance for us,” Novak said of scoring of his first CPL goal.

“Before I came to Forge and even during preparation for the club, I was working two jobs, as an intemperate coordinator and as a teller for a bank … and I had my application in for the Army.

“But even with the long, hard-fought hours, something like today makes it worth it. Today was a brilliant moment for me.”
