Forge FC star attacking midfielder Tristan Borges has been named one of three finalists for the prestigious 2024 Golden Horseshoe Athlete of the Year Award, presented by United Trophy. The award, which celebrates exceptional athletic achievement, sportsmanship, and dedication among athletes representing the Hamilton-Burlington area, is in its 30th year of honoring local sports excellence.
Borges capped an extraordinary 2024 season by being named the Canadian Premier League’s Player of the Year, becoming the first and only CPL player to earn the honour twice. His leadership, creativity on the pitch, and ability to deliver in the biggest moments played a pivotal role in Forge FC’s continued success and cemented his place as one of the league’s all-time greats.
Joining Borges as finalists for the 2024 Bill Sturrup Award are NBA All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Olympic fencing bronze medalist Eleanor Harvey. Each finalist represents a unique achievement in their respective sport and has inspired fans across the region and beyond.
The winner of the Golden Horseshoe Athlete of the Year Award will be announced during the 40th annual CYO Children’s Fundraiser Gala Dinner on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Carmen’s Banquet Centre (1520 Stone Church Rd. E, Hamilton). The gala will celebrate the achievements of the finalists while raising essential funds to support children with special needs and their families.
