FORGE FC SIGNS HAMILTONIAN GOALKEEPER BONTIS

Forge FC announced Tuesday the signing of local goalkeeper Dino Bontis to a Canadian Premier League (CPL) developmental contract and have also signed Canadian midfielder Shamit Shome and defender Cale Loughrey. Shome and Loughrey will be sent out on loan to FC Edmonton of the CPL.

Bontis, 17, is part of the Canadian youth national team (U20) pool, having previously represented Canada at the U15 age group in 2019 making four appearances in the U15 Concacaf Championships securing two clean sheets against Mexico and El Salvador. Bontis began playing for local side Hamilton Sparta before moving to Toronto FC academy where he was named U13 Concacaf Club Championships 2017 Golden Glove winner as the tournament’s top goalkeeper.

Shome, 24, spent the 2021 season with FC Edmonton in the CPL suiting up for a total of 28 appearances recording two assists in all competitions. The native of Edmonton, Alberta also spent four seasons (2017-2020) with CF Montreal of the MLS making 52 appearances tallying one goal and one assist. Internationally, Shome has made two appearances for Canada. The midfielder will be joining FC Edmonton on loan for the 2022 CPL season.

Loughrey, 20, spent two seasons (2020-21) with the University of Alabama Birmingham suiting up for a total of 25 appearances recording 1 goal and 2 assists overall. During his time with the Blazers, the defender was named to the C-USA All-Conference Third Team. The native of Ajax, Ontario, spent the 2019 season with Seneca College recording five goals and being awarded First Team All-star for OCCAA. The defender will be joining FC Edmonton on loan for the 2022 CPL season.
