TRISTON HENRY NOMINATED FOR THE GOLDEN GLOVE AWARD

The Canadian Premier League (CPL) announced Monday that Triston Henry has been nominated for this year’s Golden Glove Award honouring the best goalkeeper during the 2023 CPL regular season. Henry is one of three nominees alongside Cavalry FC’s Marco Carducci and Valour FC’s Rayane Yesli.

Henry, 30, in his fifth season for the club recorded 57 saves and a league-leading nine clean sheets solidifying Forge FC’s defence. The Canadian Goalkeeper played in 27 of 28 regular season matches for Forge, totalling 2,400 minutes played. His five inclusions in the Gatorade CPL Team of the Week were the most by any CPL goalkeeper in 2023, and he was the only netminder to be awarded Allstate Goalkeeper of the Month honours twice, in May and in July. This is Henry’s fourth nomination for Golden Glove, after earning nods in 2019, 2020 and 2021 and he will be looking to take the award home for the second time after winning the award back in 2020.

The winner will be decided through voting by CPL club technical leadership and select media members representing local and national outlets who consistently covered the 2023 CPL regular season. The winner will be revealed at an in-person ceremony in Hamilton, Ontario, on Thursday, October 26 as part of the CPL Final weekend festivities.

Voting for all the CPL’s annual awards will this year be based on performances during the regular season, not including Canadian Championship, Concacaf or playoff action.

The winner of the Golden Glove Award will be awarded a unique piece of Inuit soapstone art, conceived by artist Kellipalik Etidloie. The Canadian Inuit Dog statue is awarded annually to the CPL goalkeeper voted best at his position because the Canadian Inuit Dog and goalkeepers are, similarly, protectors who play vital roles in guarding their communities.

The 2023 CPL Awards ceremony will be broadcast live on the dedicated soccer channel OneSoccer, available as a linear channel on Optik TV (Ch. 980), the pay-TV service operated by Telus, one of Canada’s “big three” telecoms companies, as well as on streaming service fuboTV Canada. OneSoccer is also offered as an affordable streaming service through the OneSoccer.ca website, via Roku, Chromecast and Apple TV devices and with the OneSoccer app for iOS and Android devices.
